The 1970’s … A season of change for everyone. Gigantic shifts in the global economy, technology, education and the market place prompted an otherwise fiercely independent nation to open its doors to the outside world. Bhutan broke from its traditional isolation to become a member of the United Nations in 1971.

Bhutan recognized the need to modernize and industrialize the Kingdom, while at the same time protecting its inherent culture and ethos to lead the nation into the new millennium, without losing its independent spirit.

Several areas of development were identified-such as the building of its infrastructure, modernization through industrialization, encouragement of the private sector and entrepreneurship, and the opening of its doors to outside trade and education.

Through this encouragement of the Royal Government, the Lhaki Group of Companies was promoted by Dasho Ugyen Dorji, in the late 1980s. The Group started with construction and manufacturing of cement.

Lhaki Cement was established in the year 1989-90. The unit commenced commercial production in the year 1993 with 2 VSKs of 50 TPD each. The plant was augmented in the year 1995-96 with an additional VSK of 50 TPD whereby the total Clinker Capacity of the plant reached to 150 TPD.

Its cement grinding capacity was further augmented in the year 2000-2001 by installing an additional cement mill. With this, the total cement girding capacity was increased to 350 TPD.

In the year 2007, the promoters resolved to upgrade the technology as well as the capacity of the plant by installing fully automated PLC controlled 450 TPD dry process rotary plant with 5 stage suspension pre-heater. The augmentation project commenced commercial production in 2009.

In the year 2019 to 2023 upgrade Cement grinding and production in Close Circuit Ball Mill. The importance of close circuiting a Ball Mill is to achieve higher production with controlled and uniform blaines, reduce power consumption and lower cost of production. In open circuit Ball Mill, the desired quantity of raw materials is fed from the feed and directly discharged from the discharge end. There is no control in blaines and reduce. The blaines and residue play a vital role in maintaining the quality of cement. in the close circuit process, the ground materials unlike open circuit will be re-circulated from the discharge end of the Mill and lifted by bucket elevator and fed to the Higher Efficiency Dynamic Classifier where the coarse and fine materials get segregated and those not meeting designed blaines of 3200 cm2/gm and above are taken back to the Mill for further grinding.

Lhaki Cement after the commission of close circuit is achieved higher production and consistent blanies and residue of cement.
